[BwayDems] Meeting this Thursday: Club Endorsements / Climate Change Forum

We look forward to seeing you all at our monthly General Meeting and Forum
THIS THURSDAY, Feb. 14, at Bank Street College of Education, 610 W. 112th
(just west of Broadway). Registration at 7:45 and the meeting starts at
8:00 - *please be prompt.*

*We'll begin with some important club business:* endorsing candidates for
District Leader (one female, one male), and for Delegates (six) and
Alternates (six) to the Judicial Convention. We’ll also call for
nominations for County Committee Members.

*Following that we'll have a very important and timely presentation on the
Green New Deal and other legislative efforts to combat the existential
crisis of climate change.* There are resolutions and bills at the federal,
state, and city level, and we all need to inform ourselves so that we can
make our voices heard. Mark Dunlea, veteran climate activist and founding
chairperson of the Green Education and Legal Fund will be our guide for
this important discussion.

*And Mark will be fresh from testifying at a NYS Senate hearing on
the Climate and Community Protection Act (A3871 / S2292)*, a bill that
would require the state to take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
increase the use of renewable energy, promote “green” jobs and take
“adaptation and resilience” steps to deal with global warming (read Mark's

The bill has long been supported by the Democrat-led Assembly in Albany,
but has been blocked by the Republican/IDC-controlled Senate. With
Democrats now in overwhelming control of the Senate, the bill is expected
to pass.
