Dear Friend: The Broadway Democrats are as active as ever and we need your help tocontinue to champion the Democratic agenda for justice and prosperity for allNew Yorkers. On Sunday, May 1, 2016, the BroadwayDemocrats will host our annual Spring Fling, at the popular Upper West Siderestaurant, 107 West, 2787 Broadway, between 107th and 108th Streets,from 3:00-6:00 pm. Please join us for food, drinks, conversation, andcamaraderie. This year we honor our beloved Congressman Charlie Rangel, retiringafter forty-six years promoting progressive values as our representative for NewYork’s 13th Congressional District. Mr. Rangelis a founding member of theCongressional Black Caucus, and among his many accomplishments, weespecially recognize his authorship ofthe 1986 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, which enabled the building ofinnumerable units of affordable housing across the nation. We also present the Ida and Jesse Frankel CommunityService Award to the Upper West Side Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Thisten year old organization of trained and certified citizen volunteers supportsthe emergency response efforts of the NYPD and the FDNY here on the Upper WestSide. A part of NewYork City CERT, which is a program of the city’s Emergency ManagementDepartment, the UWS CERT helps provide comprehensiveemergency response, hazard planning, and disaster mitigation. 2016 promises to be an incredibly busy year for New York Democrats,as we gear up for elections in the fall.
