Featured product: Ultraviolet disinfection
------------------------------------------------------

Ultraviolet light is a powerful tool for disinfection, but its adoption
in the water and wastewater industry has been slowed mainly by the
difficulty involved in putting electric lights near the water safely and
in a way that keeps the lights clean.

Most UV lights end up heating the water around them, even when enclosed
in tubes and other containers, and that heat tends to lead to scaling
and fouling. Cleaning those bulbs becomes a time-consuming and annoying
chore.

But an innovative approach by UV Pure takes the bulbs out of the water
and instead allows the water to move through its own container past the
bulbs -- it's a subtle difference, but it does an impressive job of
improving the transmittance of the UV light and of keeping the system
clean. We are commissioning one such system this week to serve as the
disinfection method for a Nebraska community wastewater system.
