Highlights from the past week
------------------------------------------------------

Ireland doesn't usually get a hard freeze, so they weren't ready for the
frozen pipes that have really bogged down their water supplies:

Featured product: Portable dams
------------------------------------------------------

Temperatures in parts of our territory have reached just high enough to
cause some snowmelt -- which is a welcome change for those of us
fighting to drive around corners where we can't see over the snowdrifts,
but a potential hazard along rivers and streams. So far, we've been
spared a lot of difficulty with ice jams along Iowa and Nebraska rivers,
but it only takes a brief spell of warming to lead to serious trouble.

Floodwaters can rise in severity with little warning, and it's not
always possible to deploy sandbags or build earthen dams everywhere
they're needed on short notice. We're eager to tell people about the
Aqua Dam from Layfield, which can act as a portable dam for emergency
use. The Aqua Dam is quite literally a dam held up by the force of the
water inside it, so it's fast and easy to deploy, requiring only a
fraction of the manpower of a comparable sandbag-based levee.
