With NYC’s winter delta wave well underway, and omicron cases now confirmed
in the city, I know many of you have questions about what’s next for the
pandemic.

Thankfully, we have more tools than ever to fight covid–vaccines, boosters,
testing, new treatments and more. Experts have made it clear that these
tools are more important than ever, and that the best way to respond to the
community spread of omicron in NYC is to double down on these measures.
That is also true of precautions like masking, ensuring good ventilation,
and staying home if you don’t feel well.

In the face of our growing winter wave I have also called for a number of
new policies to be implemented, like the provision of free self-test kits
at libraries and schools, and mandating of masks in public indoor places.

This Monday at 5:00 pm, I’ll be joined by Dr. Syra Madad to discuss what
all the latest covid developments mean for NYC. Dr. Madad is Senior
Director of the System-wide Special Pathogens Program Office in NYC’s
public hospitals. She is also an internationally recognized expert on
biosecurity and has been a leading voice on covid throughout the pandemic.
