Friend --

Beginning Monday, April 9th, the MTA will be shutting down the B/C subway stations at 72nd, 86th and 110th streets, joining the recently closed C station at 163rd as part of the Enhanced Station Initiative. But this plan leaves much to be desired, and I am asking that you sign our petition to the MTA to demand better.<http://www.marklevine.nyc/bc_shutdown_petition?e=070125207a70bacf773c4e977b814455e2615ab7&utm_source=marklevine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=18_04_05_enews_bc_shutdown1&n=2>

The renovations, expected to be completed this fall, will bring welcome improvements to tiling, lighting, digital displays and more. But they will not make any improvement to access--failing to add elevators to notoriously inaccessible stations. The work will not even open up existing long-closed stairways and entrances--a particularly galling situation at 110th St., where three closed entrances and four closed street staircases have resulted in extreme overcrowding during rush hour.

That’s why, on Monday, April 9th at 10:30am, I’m hosting a rally with fellow elected officials, transit advocates and community activists to demand that the MTA take the appropriate steps to ease the burden of these renovations on our neighborhoods<http://www.marklevine.nyc/bc_shutdown?e=070125207a70bacf773c4e977b814455e2615ab7&utm_source=marklevine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=18_04_05_enews_bc_shutdown1&n=3> and to protest the agency’s failure to make any of these stations accessible for people with disabilities.

If you are one of the more than 33,000 riders affected by these subway closures, sign our petition calling on the MTA to promise regular updates on the status of the renovations by reporting to our local Community Boards each month<http://www.marklevine.nyc/bc_shutdown_petition?e=070125207a70bacf773c4e977b814455e2615ab7&utm_source=marklevine&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=18_04_05_enews_bc_shutdown1&n=4>, and to implement temporary shuttle buses along the affected subway route.

Thank you for making your voice heard. I hope to see you Monday.

Sincerely,

Mark Levine
