O’Donnell Elated to Walk in Pride Parade After Two Victorious Months for
Marriage Equality

June 28, 2015—Today, Assembly Member Daniel O’Donnell joins thousands of
advocates, families and allies to celebrate National Marriage Equality and
the LGBTQ community in New York City’s forty-fifth annual Pride Parade.

"It is a wonderful day to participate in the Pride March. Today we come out
to celebrate that we finally, finally have national Marriage Equality. I
could not be more overjoyed and proud to be an LGBTQ American today. And
after Ireland’s historic affirmation, both the country of my family history
and the country of my birth now allow same-sex marriages.

"The increasing popularity of the Pride March reflects the growing
acceptance of LGBTQ individuals in our country and around the world. Now
that we have achieved federal Marriage Equality, we must continue to fight
for increased legal protection for LGBTQ individuals, and to do the more
difficult, harder work of changing hearts and minds and ushering in an era
of true acceptance."

Daniel O’Donnell, the first openly gay man elected to the New York State
Assembly, has been a progressive voice advocating fair and sensible
legislation since he was elected to represent the 69th District in 2002,
including the author and sponsor of New York State’s Marriage Equality Law,
which was signed into law in 2011. His district includes Manhattan Valley,
Morningside Heights, and the Upper West Side.
