*Seniors: Make sure your voice is heard* at these upcoming Borough Town
Halls on the importance of providing a lawyer to tenants facing
eviction! LiveOn
NY, a member of the New York City Right to Counsel Coalition, is working on
historic legislation that would provide legal assistance to low income
tenants facing eviction. Most tenants facing eviction do not have a lawyer
during the complicated eviction proceedings and a right to counsel would
help ensure they understand their rights and are represented by legal
counsel. Adoption of a Right to Counsel could help more seniors stay in
their homes, and LiveOne New York can help. The Coalition is holding a
series of Borough Town Halls so that you can learn more and weigh in on
this issue. It is important for the voice of seniors to be represented so
we hope you can attend. *Manhattan Town Hall will be held at Goddard

*Participate in PlaNYC! *The City of New York is currently updating
PlaNYC—New York’s City’s blue print for the future. Every four years, the
Administration creates a plan to address New York’s City’s growth,
sustainability, and resiliency. This year, Mayor Bill de Blasio has added
equity as a key element of the plan—recognizing the importance of every New
Yorker having access to opportunities. We need your help to make sure that
as many New Yorkers as possible can weigh in on this important process. We
want to make sure that PlaNYC reflects all of our ideas and vision. We
would like all New Yorkers to answer the question, “how can we make our
City better and stronger for our shared future?” Filling out the survey will
enable you to LEAVE YOUR MARK and share your ideas for how our City moves
forward. Click here: http://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/planyc-survey.page,
and don’t forget to forward the survey link to a friend once completed! It
is offered in seven languages in order to ensure that all voices are heard.
Thank you, in advance, for participating in the #FUTURENYC.

*Lawn Restoration & Temporary Closure at Bennett Park *As you may have
heard at recent Community Board 12 meetings, through a partnership of NYC
Parks and the Central Park Conservancy, the lawn at Bennett Park is being
restored. Work will begin on Wednesday April 15th and will require that the
lawn be closed for four months. Lawn restoration involves “soil
decompaction,” in which soil is tilled with compost to fluff it up, turning
a literally rock-hard surface where nothing can grow into a healthy, spongy
soil. This softer soil has pore space where air, water, and roots can pass
through. A lawn is a living system needing porous soil; soil without pores
is dead soil. The roots of grass actually hold these pores open and keep
the lawn alive. We must close the lawn now to give new grass time to grow
its roots and become tough and springy. Mature grass softens the footsteps
that slowly crush soil, holds soil in place, and keeps soil fluffy. A bare
spot on a lawn is a place literally no plant can grow until the soil is
decompacted again.

The playground and southern plaza and seating areas in Bennett will remain
open during the restoration and re-establishment period. Please make use of
other lawns – J. Hood Wright, Highbridge, Ft. Tryon & Inwood Hill Parks
this Spring/Summer. Central Park Conservancy will be installing signs on
site as work begins and will be fencing in the lawn during reconstruction
and following it. *We need YOUR help to ensure their work is a success,*
and that means spreading the word about the need to keep off the lawn
during its re-establishment period of 4 months. Thank you in advance for
helping us bring a beautiful and more enjoyable lawn to Bennett Park.
Should you have any questions, please contact jennifer.hoppa at parks.nyc.gov or
