supply, create environmentally sustainable jobs and safeguard communities

*30th Annual Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park *Produced by the
Washington Heights/Inwood Development Corp. (WHIDC) and sponsored by the
NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, this festival is one of the oldest
and largest scheduled events in all NYC Parks. The festival is a unique
chance to experience the Medieval period in the most authentic setting this
side of the Atlantic. The area around the Cloisters Museum in Fort Tryon
Park is transformed into a medieval market village where knights in armor,
jugglers, jesters, magicians, musicians, storytellers, and puppeteers will
perform. A blacksmith, manuscript illuminator, glass bead maker, potter,
stone carver and other artisans will demonstrate their crafts. Performers
and fairgoers alike dress in period-styled costumes. The afternoon includes
a human chess game, musical and theatrical performances, and culminates

*Having a problem with NYC Public School Registration for Your Child(ren)? *NYC
Department of Education Temporary Education Centers remain open through
Friday. For the first time, the Department has specially trained staff at
each site to help families looking to enroll their child in pre-K. The
Department also added more interpreters than in past years to help ensure
that families are able to access the information and services they need in
a variety of languages.



New elementary and middle school students who have zoned schools, including
those with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), should register at
their zoned schools. (Visit www.nyc.gov/schools or call 311 to find your
zoned school. Students who live in a neighborhood without zoned schools
should visit a Registration Center in their borough of residence.) Families
can still register for pre-K and can find more information at nyc.gov/prek or

Enrollment staff at Registration Centers will meet with students and their
parents to facilitate registration. All locations provide over-the-phone

Centers are open through Friday, September 12th, from 8am to 3pm. On Monday,
September 15th, the Borough Enrollment Offices will reopen for continued

*UNIDOS Coalition Community Underage Drinking Survey:* Support community
efforts in researching underage drinking within Washington Heights &
Inwood! Help the UNIDOS Coalition in continuing their work towards

*EZ Pass Phishing Scam *The New York State Thruway Authority is warning
that an email going around to E-ZPass holders is actually a phishing scam.
The email, which looks as though it was sent by the E-ZPass service center,
asks customers to download an invoice with a list unpaid tolls. (Hint:
don't do that!) "Please be advised this is not an authorized communication
from E-ZPass, the New York State Thruway Authority or any other toll agency
associated with E-ZPass," the Thruway Authority said in a statement. "We
advise you not to open or respond to such a message should you receive
one." Anyone having questions about any correspondence can call customer
service center at 800-333-8655.



*Some useful information on NYC litter baskets… *The City places and
maintains garbage receptacles at commercial street corners along standard
collection routes. The City accepts requests for litter baskets in new
locations within commercial and mixed-use zones. You may not request a
public litter basket for a residential area. The City also accepts reports
that public waste receptacles are overflowing or are being used for
household or commercial purposes. A person or group may adopt a City trash
receptacle and change liners when the baskets are full. The City provides
liner bags and a collection schedule. A person or group may donate an
upgraded litter basket to replace a standard litter basket. The sponsor
will receive a recognition sign with their name or company logo. *Call* *311
to sponsor a litter basket or report an overflowing litter basket.*

*Help for Small Businesses to Upgrade and Save on Your ConEd Bill *Hispanic
Federation and Con Edison have announced the second phase of the Washington
Heights/Inwood Energy Efficiency Initiative, a project that will provide
small business owners with the opportunity to upgrade equipment and save
energy. A total of $1.17 million is available for this project. The Con
Edison Small Business Direct Install program provides up to 70% of the cost
for eligible upgrades and installations. The Hispanic Federation will cover
the remaining balance of these energy-efficiency upgrades for eligible

*NYSERDA’s Combined Heat and Power Expo *is designed to help commercial,
industrial, and multifamily building owners and managers connect with
pre-approved Combined Heat and Power (CHP) equipment vendors and other
organizations offering financial incentives and technical support for the
installation of CHP systems. NYSERDA’s CHP programs offer incentives for
systems 50 kW and larger. Building owners, managers, and other
representatives are invited to stop by and speak with CHP system vendors,
NYSERDA staff, and U.S. Department of Energy’s CHP Technical Assistance
Partnership representatives about the various products and services
available to capture significant energy savings and improve the resiliency
of their buildings. The Expo will feature:

NYSERDA’s CHP Catalog.
