****HOW YOU CAN HELP*** (7 items)*

*A Gentle Reminder from the SONOS Orchestra *Imagine the beloved music and
story of The Nutcracker transformed to Washington Heights, where the music
is traditional Tchaikovsky, but the dance on stage is performed by 12 hip
hop dancers. 31 members of the SONOS Chamber Orchestra will be performing
in the orchestra pit, while a live DJ and an electric violinist perform
live onstage. Thanks to the generosity of 18 funders now, we are up to
$2,115 in our Indiegogo campaign for A few people have asked me about the
Hip Hop aspect. SONOS will be performing the complete Tchaikovsky
classical music score in a reduced orchestration for 31 orchestra
musicians. There will also be a DJ and an electronic violinist who perform
periodically during the show, mostly during scene changes. Decadance
Theater Company specializes in performing hip hop dance to Classical music!
But we can only make this happen with your support! *Not someone else's ---
yours!* Thanks in advance for donations of any size:

*Help Save Fort Tryon's American Elms* Fort Tryon Park is graced by dozens
of 100-year old American Elms. Transplanted as mature trees by John D.
Rockefeller in the early 1930s, the elms have offered beauty and shade to
visitors and residents of New York City from the day the park opened. These
glorious trees and the graceful canopy they provide are in jeopardy as
Dutch elm disease, a deadly fungus that infects the sapwood of elm trees,
has invaded the park. To preserve these majestic trees, the Fort Tryon Park
Trust and NYC Parks have begun a rigorous course of pruning, removing
infected trees, inoculating remaining trees, and air spading mature roots.
Please consider making a gift in support of the elms. When Fort Tryon loses
an elm, it loses a piece of its history and a significant contributor to
its scenic landscape character, which will take a century to recapture.
Support the preservation of the elms by making a donation here:
https://www.forttryonparktrust.org/donation_form/donation_form.php.

mobility, DOT will make the following improvements:

*Isham Park update: *Excavation work on the water service improvement
project ceased operations last week after oyster shells surfaced at the
former site of the Isham estate near Park Terrace East road, indicating
possible presence of archaeological resources. Parks researched the history
of soil disturbance in the park and met on site with Amanda Sutphin,
Director of Archaeology at NYC Landmarks who determined the visible areas
of excavation did not contain any significant resources. Ms. Sutphin
requested that Parks adopt an Unanticipated Discoveries Plan to guide the
contractor’s employees and Park’s onsite construction supervisors in the
event that something significant is found during future excavations. The
site is historically important for Native American and Revolutionary War
activities although its development as an estate in the late 19th century,
and as a park in the early 20th century, are presumed to have altered the
earlier conditions. The Unanticipated Discoveries Plan will serve as a
guiding document for excavations conducted on-site and require work to
cease, and LPC to be consulted, should any archaeological resources surface
during construction.
