****LG/USA PALISADES UPDATE*** (8 items)*

Opposition keeps growing. In case you missed it, I encourage you to read
this excellent recent article in the New York Times:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/05/09/more-opposition-to-the-lg-headquarters-beside-the-palisades/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

*Please note in your calendars some important upcoming dates, and ways you
can get involved. *The Event Committee of Protect the
Palisades.org<http://palisades.org/>encourages members and supporters
to participate in the public events
listed below to spread the word about LG's development and its threat to
the historical and landmarked Palisades.

1) We are asking the public to consider carefully the character of
the company from which they chose to buy their cell phones, TVs, washing
machines, etc. This is *not* a "boycott."

2) Join us at the United Palace (B’way @ W. 175th St.) for
informational leafleting, Sunday, May 18th at 4pm.

3) Joining the Protect the Palisades Meetup group will let you know
about events and make it easy to register for them, and will help us gather
new supporters. It is especially important for those who are coordinating
events to join our Meetup Group:http://www.meetup.com/Protect-the-Palisades/.
To do this, create a user ID and password. Your actual email address will
remain anonymous and you can choose a user name that is not your real name
if you have any concerns. (Please note when you sign up you will be
prompted to select interests; you can minimize emails you receive by
selecting fewer or no interests.)

4) *Englewood Cliffs Planning Board Public Hearing ** *Note likely
venue: 143 Charlotte Place, Englewood Cliffs. It’s the Upper School** *IT
IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAKE EVERY ATTEMPT TO ATTEND THIS HEARING. WE MUST
HAVE A STRONG SHOWING. BRING YOUR FRIENDS. TRANSPORTATION FROM NYC WILL BE
CO-ORDINATED BY NRDC. *The planning board will hear additional public
testimony (continued from their April 30th hearing, which had more speakers
signed up than could be accommodated in the 3-hour meeting) on proposed
Master Plan which would enable development of buildings up to 150’ in
height along Sylvan Avenue west of the Palisades. Watch this space for
details as to venue, date and time (likely in early June).

5) The May 19th public hearing of the New Jersey State Senate’s
Environment & Energy Committee to discuss proposed zoning legislation which
would protect the Palisades by rendering moot the zoning variance granted
to LG by the town of Englewood Cliffs and other such local zoning laws HAS
BEEN CANCELLED. There is now a New Jersey Assembly Palisades Protection
Bill! Assembly Bill 3183, identical to Senate bill 2025, has been filed. We
will keep you posted on further developments and as soon as a date is set
for an Assembly hearing, we will let you know.

6) And of course, if you are a letter writer and you haven’t already
done so, please write a letter to CEO Bon-Joon
Koo<http://www.protectthepalisades.org/koo_letter?utm_campaign=4govs_nyt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=protectthepalisadesorg>and
ask others to do the same. For more ways to help protect the
Palisades,
please visit our Take Action
page<http://www.protectthepalisades.org/take_action?utm_campaign=4govs_nyt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=protectthepalisadesorg>
.

7) Lastly,* SIGN the petition *at www.protectthepalisades.org. *Help
us get to 5,000 signatures! *
