*No Keystone XL Pipeline! Vigil Monday, 6pm, at Union Square*

As you may know, today (Friday) the State Department released its Final
Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Keystone XL pipeline
(executive summary and full report available
here<http://keystonepipeline-xl.state.gov/finalseis/index.htm>). This
is a significant step towards eventual approval of this pipeline, which
many prominent scientists agree would be disastrous for the climate.
However, it's NOT the final step - the pipeline can still be stopped.

Now begins a period of 90 days (possibly more, possibly less), during which
other federal agencies (including the EPA) and the public can make
comments. After the comment period, the State Dept. will issue a Draft
National Interest Determination (NID). Probably within a couple of weeks
after the Draft NID comes out, President Obama will make *the *final
National Interest Determination.

So the final decision is still about three months off. It will be important
for those who are opposed to the pipeline to make LOTS of noise during
these next three months. And that noise starts Monday night, with a "rapid
response" vigil organized by CREDO, the Rainforest Action Network, Sierra
Club, 350.org - and lots of others.
