RANGEL TO KEYNOTE HEALTHCARE FORUM AND EXPO
Congressman to Discuss Implementation & Benefits of Affordable Care Act

Washington, D.C. - On Saturday October 5, 2013, Congressman Charles B. Rangel will be the keynote speaker at a forum on the New York State Health Exchange sponsored by Health First, the Children's Defense Fund, and the Greater Chamber of Commerce. The Congressman will discuss the implementation and benefits of the Affordable Care Act, which opened for enrollment nationwide on October 1, 2013.

The day will begin at 8:45am with a free breakfast at Alhambra's Restaurant, where a panel of experts will join the Congressman to address how marketplace will work, how it affects individuals and families, and how to obtain coverage.  Panelists include Dr. Jamie Torres, US Department of Health and Human Services; Rebecca Jackson, NY State Department of Health; Elizabeth Benjamin, Community Service Society; Minister Vin Baker, Abyssinian Baptist Church; and Errol Pierce, Health First.

At noon, attendees will have the opportunity to enroll in the insurance market and have free health screenings at the Health and Wellness Expo on the Plaza in front of the Harlem State Office Building. Free entertainment will be availble for the whole family, including games, prizes, clowns, and face painters for the children.

Over the following six months, one million New Yorkers will have access to affordable coverage through the New York Health Exchange. The Exchange is an insurance marketplace and is the only place where individuals and families can shop for, compare, and buy coverage; it is also the only place to get financial assistance to reduce the cost of coverage.
