Dear Broadway Democrat,

Let me begin by thanking you and your club
for hosting a thoughtful and engaging candidates' forum. Your questions
were very insightful, and I got a very clear sense of how much you care
about our community.

I’M RUNNING TO BE THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEMBER
FROM THE 6TH DISTRICT OF MANHATTAN because, like you, I'm passionate
about our community and our city. I also believe I can bring something
different to the table. I'm a systems engineer, which means I CARE MORE
ABOUT LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS THAN US/THEM POLITICS--a mindset that I think
our city could use more of.

Being a Council Member requires a deep
understanding of land use rules, city budgeting, and person-to-person
quality of life. And I have dedicated the last 20 years of my life to
this type of community advocacy and organizing, working to bring people
together to collectively achieve concrete results that work for
everyone. MY SERVICE AS A 17-YEAR MEMBER AND TWO-TERM CHAIR OF MANHATTAN
COMMUNITY BOARD 7, CHAIR OF THE WEST SIDE Y, AND IN COUNTLESS OTHER
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS have given me the knowledge base and personal
relationships that are necessary to HIT THE GROUND RUNNING AS A CITY
COUNCIL MEMBER.

AS MANHATTAN COMMUNITY BOARD 7 CHAIR, I:

* Fought
to secure 600,000 SQUARE FEET OF _PERMANENT_ AFFORDABLE HOUSING space in
new developments
* Raised $35 MILLION in public and private funding
for PARKS AND SENIOR CENTERS, and $15 million for a COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF
THE 59TH STREET REC CENTER
* Negotiated 100,000 SQUARE FEET OF NEW
PUBLIC SCHOOL SPACE
* Championed a new zoning plan that PROTECTS OVER
300 OF OUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES from big-box retail chains

AS WEST
SIDE Y BOARD CHAIR, I:

* Oversaw the opening of a NEW SATELLITE
LOCATION FOR WORKING FAMILIES AND LOCAL IMMIGRANTS
* Developed a
successful STRATEGIC PLAN TO ENSURE THE FINANCIAL HEALTH of the West
Side Y through the recession
* Implemented a FACILITY EXPANSION FOR
EARLY CHILDHOOD, TEEN, AND SENIOR PROGRAMS

I am honored to have the
endorsement of STATE SENATOR TOM DUANE, who said about my candidacy:
"Voters of the West Side have a long and storied tradition of making
wise and historic leadership choices. ELECTING MEL WILL FURTHER BURNISH
THAT LEGACY."

With your endorsement and support we can break
milestones together. IF WE WORK TOGETHER, WE CAN:

* Retrofit our
large buildings to REDUCE OUR ENERGY COSTS AND CARBON FOOTPRINT
* END
DISCRIMINATORY STOP-AND-FRISK police tactics
* Broaden and diversify
our AFFORDABLE HOUSING STOCK FOR MIDDLE- AND LOW-INCOME New Yorkers
*
PROTECT OUR PUBLIC SPACES AND RESOURCES (SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, PARKS,
HOUSING) from privatization
* Fight to TAKE BACK HOME RULE OF OUR OWN
TAXES from the state
* Phase in WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE TAXICABS to
replace the entire yellow-cab fleet within two years
* END CO-LOCATION
OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS WITH CHARTERS, which drain them of already-scarce
resources
* STOP NEW YORK STATE HYDROFRACKING IN ITS TRACKS

If you
want to bring a NEW APPROACH to policymaking and problem-solving that
puts POSITIVE, INCLUSIVE, PROGRESSIVE RESULTS ahead of the oppositional
politics we all know far too well, I HOPE YOU WILL VOTE TO ENDORSE ME
FOR CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 6.

Thank you,

Mel Wymore

Candidate, New
York City Council

District 6 (Upper West Side)
