Dear Broadway 
Democrats,
 
On May 9th, the Broadway 
Democrats, a progressive Democratic political club, is endorsing a candidate for 
Mayor.  We would like you to join us 
in endorsing John Liu.
 
How do you decide who to 
endorse? First you need a set of political principles, a core of beliefs that 
drive your political decisions.  Then you see who matches up with those principles.  Which candidate comes closest to your 
positions on issues affecting the city, such as education, housing, safety, and 
the environment?  When we matched 
our positions against the positions of the candidates, the candidate who was the 
most progressive candidate of all was clearly John 
Liu.
 
Then you look at 
leadership qualities.  Does the 
candidate look at polls to formulate positions?  Does the candidate come out in favor of 
something only after almost everyone else has signed on and it is safe?  Or does the candidate speak the truth 
even at the risk of creating discomfort?  Does the candidate lead from the front and not from the rear? We looked 
at all the candidates and the candidate who showed the most leadership was 
clearly John Liu.
 
Finally, you look at 
viability.  Can this person actually 
get elected?  Are we going to let 
pundits and editorial writers determine for us who the electable candidates are, 
or are we going to make that decision for ourselves?  After a lengthy, exhaustive 
investigation, there is no evidence to suggest that John has engaged in any 
wrongdoing, either in campaign fundraising or his day-to-day activities as 
comptroller.  Throughout this 
campaign, John has adhered to the highest standards of ethical behavior, just as 
he has throughout his career in public service.  We believe John Liu can win the election 
to become our next Mayor.
 
This combination of 
progressive principles, proven leadership, and a commitment to the highest 
ethical standards makes John the ideal candidate to lead New York City for the next 
four years.
