A Note from Assembly Member O'Donnell

As you all know, Hurricane Sandy caused unprecedented damage to our city and many
other areas of the Northeast. Luckily, our neighborhood largely escaped the devastation
other areas experienced, but the storm's impact is still being felt by many of our
friends, coworkers, and family members. If you would like to help affected areas
recover from this tragedy, there are many volunteer opportunities still available,
as well as ways to donate money, goods, or services to those in need. A good list
of these opportunities can be found at www.nycservice.org [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001cwbhfYbZ2X9X1iPA7mye1dFOYydwacPRFo-GJDU48xeYHuQXPygyfwe-ZPfYUClPYDyq6usgAUBb7mYb5pJ4lyVoZAXI-Fw9pnO6XAEoCjkfIj2tTAuh1g==].

On a related note, many individuals contacted my office to share their concerns
regarding Election Day this past Tuesday, and expressed immense frustration at the
long lines and confusion that prevailed. While the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy
played a role in increasing disorder, many reported that there were unrelated long
waits and overall disarray. I plan to work with other elected officials to help
remedy this situation and alter the way the Board of Elections operates so that
this will not happen again.

In our community, the second of my annual Health Fairs, held at Children's Aid Society's
Frederick Douglass Center, was a great success. A big thank-you to all community
members who attended, as well as the organizations who gave out free health services,
including free flu shots! Thanks also to Whole Foods and Toast, who donated gift
cards for the free raffle for attendees. If you missed getting your free flu shot
at the Health Fair, you'll have a second chance this coming week at my yearly Flu
Shot Clinic. See the information later in this Monthly Update about how to reserve
yours!

Finally, as a result of this past Tuesday's election, I am proud that I will represent
the 69th Assembly District for another two years. As always, I welcome your thoughts
and concerns. Should you need assistance or information, my Community Office is
open and ready to help from 9AM - 5:30PM. With the Assembly not currently in session,
I am in my Community Office most days and want to help any way I can. Feel free
to call my office at (212) 866-3970 or email me at odonnelld at assembly.state.ny.us
[mailto:odonnelld at assembly.state.ny.us]. I look forward to seeing many of you out
in the community this month!
