Fighting Hunger & Living Healthy

Open to the Public - June 16, 2012 - State Office Building Plaza

Congressman Charles B. Rangel is hosting an event with Harlem United at the State Office Building Plaza to educate the community about federal and local food assistance programs, access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and healthy eating habits to combat diet-related illnesses that affect many of his constituents in the district.
Audrey Rowe, USDA's Administrator for the Food and Nutrition Service, will speak about various federal food assistance and nutrition programs available to the public. Joel Berg, executive director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, will discuss how anti-hunger organizations can work with the government to fight hunger on a local level. Most of the City's largest anti-hunger organizations will be present to lend support and provide community members with food and nutrition information and resources including pre-screening applicants for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, aka "food stamps") and healthy cooking demonstrations.
When: June 16 (Saturday) from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
