[Rantman] Radio show today says it so well... ocean acidification and global warming. Link to MP3

It is an hour long, but it is VERY current - if you know the science
already, then the last 10 mins are especially good. But all of it is
important.

KUOW has stepped up to the issue.

Ocean Acidification

We all know about carbon dioxide's effect on the atmosphere, but some
scientists view CO2's effect on the oceans as an even bigger
environmental threat than climate change. Dissolved CO2 leads to ocean
acidification --- and the Pacific Northwest is at particular risk.
Upwellings along our coast are bringing acidified waters toward the
shores at an alarming rate. We find out the latest about the rate of
ocean acidification, how it could affect marine life in Puget Sound and
around the world, and what, if anything, we can do to turn the tide.

RELATED EVENT

Richard Feely and Brian Baird will be speaking this evening at Town Hall
in Seattle. The Sustainable Path Seminar, "Dissolving Before Our Eyes:
The Acidification Of Our Oceans, And Why It Matters To All of Us,"
begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Feely and Baird will also speak as
part of the Ocean Acidification Symposium at the Center for Urban
Horticulture in Seattle tomorrow, which is open to the public.

GUEST(S)

*Richard Feely*is a senior scientist at the NOAA Pacific Marine
Environmental Laboratory in Seattle. He's also a professor in the
University of Washington School of Oceanography. His research focuses on
carbon cycling in the oceans and ocean acidification processes. Last
year, he was awarded the Heinz Award for his research on the changing
ocean chemistry and its impact on marine ecosystems.

*Brian Baird*served for 12 years in the United States House of
Representatives, where he focused on science and technology, energy, and
health care. He authored the Federal Ocean Acidification Research and
Monitoring Act of 2009.
