THINKING EXPERTISE

If there's any expertise that every single person needs, it is thinking expertise.  The reason for this is simple: Thinking lies at the heart of everything.  You cannot communicate better than you think.  You cannot coach better than you think.  You cannot feel or emote better than you think.  You cannot perform or succeed better than you can think.  

Every single thing that counts in the human experience is a function of your thinking.  Even you.  "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he" Proverb 23:7. Now while NLP began with "communication" unknown to the founders, it actually started with thinking.  Accidentally, they defined “communication" as beginning with the sensory-based movie we make in our minds... what we now recognize as the thinking modalities of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.  That's how thinking starts.

How about that!  NLP began with thinking even though the founders and early developers did not know that.  And many still do not know it.  Later, Leslie Cameron Bandler introduced the thinking patterns that we today call "meta-programs."  And so Joseph Yeager said that "NLP is the science of thinking about thinking." (1985, Thinking about Thinking with NLP, p. viii).

Now to explore and deepen this subject, I started studying thinking in 2014 in a project on critical thinking, that led to Executive Thinking which in turn, opened up a whole new series of books:
Executive Thinking (2018)
Executive Deciding (2022)
Executive Wisdom (2022)
Executive Learning (2019)
Hypnotic Thinking (2020)
Humorous Thinking (2021)
Metaphorical Thinking (2022)
Predictive Thinking (2022)
Thinking as a Modeler (2018)

Why?  Because when you change your thinking, you change everything!  You change your mind, your frames of mind, your way of thinking, your emotions, your communications, the way you relate, how you engage in things, your productivity ... in a word, everything. 

What does that mean?  It means the key to transformation lies in your thinking.  But you know that already!  That's what Meta-States is about, what Winning the Inner Game is about, what User's Manual for the Brain is about, and so on.  It's why we introduce Cognitive Distortions and Cognitive Biases---those are ways that thinking goes wrong.

In the next WISDOM, I will be presenting my current work on the thinking skills.  I have identified 3 sets of thinking skills ... for a Thinking Model (in which I'm still working out the kinks).  I will present the first 5 on the next WISDOM ...
Set 1: 5 Essential thinking skills.
Set 2: 4 Eureka thinking skills.
Set 3: 5 Executive thinking skills.

Each set of skills is designed to achieve a different outcome:
Essential - to ground thinking in reality, make it real, authentic, accurate, precise, and factual.
Eureka - to let thinking generate new creative ideas that leads to innovations, insights and higher level understandings.
Executive - how thinking establishes our "learnings,” life decisions, highest intentions, reflexivity, and being-cognition.

Now because this new Thinking Model is the heart and soul of Brain Camp I, this will be the material in that training.  And to give you a heads-up on this--- I'll be introducing this in the next WISDOMS.  

There will also be something else new.  In the next WISDOM Zooms, I will present for 30 to 40 minutes and then we will have two zoom rooms, each for 15 minutes, for immediate conversation and community building.  The purpose: to create thinking expertise in the Neuro-Semantic community!
