But that's not all! This is the perfect opportunity to RECONNECT with fellow Neuro-Semantics enthusiasts from all over the world in ISNS. It's going to be an incredible gathering of like-minded individuals, and we can't wait to see you there!

WHO WANTS TO BE COMPETENT?

Here are exploration questions about the Neuro-Semantics of Competence for our meeting:

How clear are you about the difference between a skill and competence?
Do you need to hear that distinction again?

There is a distinction between competence and confidence. It seems that many people (maybe most people) do not know this difference. They want confidence and seem to think they can experience it apart from competence.

What would you say to such a person to help them understand the difference?
Why is that that when you are actually skilful to actually do something and even competence, your ability to do that thing goes up and down?
Why is it that you will have good days and bad days? What explains this?

In Neuro-Semantics and Meta-Coaching we have measured out 3 levels of competence which we encourage people to aim for. Ander Ericksson, the Swedish Psychologist, identified the 10-year principle (10,000 hours of deliberate practice) for expertise. Why do you think it takes so long?
1st. Basic skill competence--2.5 level.
2nd. Professional skill competence--3.0.
3rd. Masterful skill competence--3.5.

With every skill (and therefore competence) there are two areas for development:
1st Understanding. Knowing what the skill is and how it works.
2nd Implementation, the actual know-how for doing what you know. This introduces the Knowing-Doing gap. Yet most people -when they know something, they assume they can do it. What explains this bias?

Deliberate practice for expertise in a skill takes 10,000 hours or 10 years. That's 1,000 hours a year which is 2.7 hours a day, 7 days a week! That's a lot of highly refined practice. Why is this amount of practice is required?
