Yesterday my mailbox started filling up with dozens and dozens of people informing me that Facebook is changing their name to Meta.

I also so this news on the NLP Leadership Summit egroup.  There we all know that NLP was originally called Meta and Frank Pucelik, one of the founders, is said to have trademark “meta” in 1978 when he started The Meta Institute in San Diego.  Later he left the US, moved to Russia, and for the past couple decades he has been in the Ukraine.  So I’m sure whatever had been registered was not kept up-todate.

With the discovery of the Meta-State model in 1994, I began using meta in my email.  In 2002 we launched Meta-Coaching which is now in 65 countries as well as the Meta-Coach Foundation.

One person (Abby Eagle, Australia) wondered if we can now use Facebook name change to bring awareness to the Meta-Coach Foundation and to NLP?   Good question.

He also asked if our use of the word “meta” will be blocked by Facebook.  Another good question.

Bob Bodenhamer sent me a quote

·        The Facebook chief said the word comes from the Greek term for "beyond" and is meant to symbolize that "there is always more to build, there is always a next chapter to the story."

 

Then he commented --- “Beyond” sounds nice, but I like “Higher” better.  Ah yes, that’s how we use meta in Neuro-Semantics, to indicate the higher cognitive levels and frames.

 

Anyway, this will make the term meta more well-known and will be more commonly used.
