After introducing the newest book, Inside-Out Persuasion, numerous people
asked if there were other books on persuasion.  And the answer is yes.
Mind-Lines: Lines for Changing Mind also addresses the subject of how to
influence others.  And that book is based on the updated Meta-Model book,
Communication Magic.   When I mentioned this to one person, he asked if he

Almost everything written on the subject of Persuasion tends to be on the
manipulative sideof things--- the basic message is: How to get things from
others.  How to get your own sweet way by tricking others.   And there are
some people who have taken NLP and used it for this purpose.  Theresult?

manipulative."  

I started to write about persuasion in 2004.   I wrote an 200 pages.  then I
put it away.  I knew that I was not ready to write about it.  Twelve years
past when I revisited the old text and took a new look at it.  Having just
finished the book on Authenticity, "Get Real" (2016), I realized that I was
ready to write about persuasion and so I did.

The design of this book is to use what we know in NLP about communication
and state and what we know in Neuro-Semantics about meaning and performance
and about the meta-levels to model ethical or authentic persuasion.  The
design is to put into the hands of Trainers and Coaches the ability to
influence people powerfully and also ethically.

Mind-Lines is about conversational reframing.  In NLP a set of "sleight of
mouth" patterns was developed over the years, but that set of reframing
patterns really had no structure.  In 1997 I put structure to it and
identified seven directions in which you could influence a person's mind.
And that provided the 26 ways to reframe a meaning.

Communication Magic (2001) was the book that celebrated the 25-year
anniversary of the Meta-Model of Language.  I was asked to update the
Meta-Model form the original books, The Structure of Magic (1975).  So I
added 9 new distinctions and traced the development of the Meta-Model over
the years.
