Living Life - Choosing Frame by Frame

This post is for anyone who lives near Washington DC, visits occasionally, or is just plain curious.

For the last 25 years I facilitated monthly sessions in NLP; the last 10 covering Neurosemantics. They started as post training sessions in 1985 when I was a co-trainer in a three-day training that covered the states and beliefs needed to model the unknown. Bob Quinlan and Rick Parker, both well-experienced in NLP, have supported these sessions for the entire time!

We usually meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month for 2½ hours in the evening.  We have an informal environment that is conducive to learning and exploring.
We have a year long theme, e.g., Perceptual Genius (2008), Accessing Personal Genius (2007), Modeling Abilities (2006 – Evaluating the book , “Expanding Your World, Modeling the Structure of Experience” by David Gordon and Graham Dawes).  Our theme for 2009 is Living Life – Choosing Frame by Frame. We will use Michael Hall’s updated book on Metastates as the primary reference; covering material in the book, doing demos, practicing, and experimenting. This includes:

Simple States. Bringing one state to bear on other states (e.g., how “owning” your toothbrush can support owning your thoughts, feelings, speech, and behavior).

Complex States. Some states like resilience and uninsultability need a little more work to access.  How can you access in
ner peace and its close companion state forgiveness? When I was much younger, I spent about one year of my life working on inner peace and forgiveness using  “A Course in Miracles (CIM)." Can that course give us some ideas about how to metastate (access) inner peace and forgiveness? For example, one CIM perspective (frame) is that there is no difference between me and you, so to forgive you I just need to forgive myself.

Modeling States. If no one knows how to access a particular desired state, we will find someone who can, do some research, model the state, and transfer it (in an appropriate form). Many years ago I co-authored an NLP exercise on trusting oneself. Trust proves to be one essential component in succeeding in an unknown situation. During one session we will explore how to create a good menu of states that support dealing with the world when you have absolutely no idea what to do (good states for modelers).

Being a modeler, I appreciate boundaries. Standing on the boundary of two disciplines can provide good learning and discovery perspectives. We will bring other disciplines to bear on our work as needed, e.g., NLP and System Dynamics (formal system thinking discipline). Although we have a primary theme, we will spend a few sections on other topics. This year we will have two NLP/NS video nights. We will also cover some mindlines and illustrate them using a new TRIZ (problem solving) language.

We have room for a few more attendees. If you are interested in atten
ding send me an email (pascalgam at aol.com ). Tell me something about yourself and we can arrange to talk. No previous NLP experience is required, although we do encourage participants to attend formal trainings. Participants have included those with all levels of training including NLP trainers. Our next session is January 14, 2009.

Happy New Year!
