Meta-States (2008)

Yes, it is now all coming together, indeed.

I've only read the newly rewritten Meta-States (2008) book, not their
predecessors.

Reading how Michael tells the story about the genesis--and aha!--of how the
early Meta-States concepts emerged, made the concepts come alive. Plus,
Michael's weaving his "exploration of resilience" [research] with his
epiphany--"Aha! That's it!" [new neural networks connecting] felt real, and
helped root deeper meaning for me.

Model that!

From: L. Michael Hall

Three weeks ago I received the shipment of the new book on the original
Meta-States Model, Meta-States (2008). The only responses about it have
been just from a few friends who said they like the way it has been
completely re-written.

Now while this book was not written as a first -read, I did receive the
following response from one person:

"Anyhow, all that to say, that I have started reading meta-States, about 50
pages read, and finally after having done several trainings on the subject,
, I'm starting to get it, and it's coming together. Meta-States is the book
I needed to read to put things together, so I could comprehend the rest."

Anyway, the book is now available if you want to get a copy.

META-STATES - THE BOOK

>From its discovery in 1994, The Meta-States Model, as a model, has been

revolutionizing the field of NLP. And no wonder-Meta-States explains the
magic of NLP. So, without a thorough understanding of the Meta-States
model, you cannot really understand NLP. And why is that? Precisely
because the "magic" of NLP occurs at meta-levels.

Yes, the power of NLP occurs by recognizing the movies we play in our mind,
and that the code we use to create and change our movies are in the
representational systems (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.). Yet even
the ability to recognize those mental movies of the mind requires a
meta-jump-the ability to step back from one's thinking to recognize the form
or the structure of the thinking. And to work with the cinematic qualities
of those movies requires yet another meta-move. And these are meta-states.

This begins to answer Dr. John Grinder's question, "Why the proliferation of
Meta-States?" The answer is this:

"NLP is not fully understood, appreciated, or utilized without the
Meta-States Model. Meta-States are all of the higher frames of references,
frames of mind, beliefs, understandings, etc. that govern our filters on
reality. That's why the proliferation of Meta-States."

The Meta-States Model is a model about the uniquely special kind of
consciousness that human beings have-self-reflexive consciousness. This
refers to the way our minds reflect back onto themselves. We not only think
and feel, but we think about our thinking, we think about our feelings, we
feel about our thoughts, we feel about our feelings. And we do not do this
just once or twice, but again and again. This is the infinite regress or
progress that allows us to climb the ladder of meaning as we draw
conclusions, invent beliefs, abstract level upon level to create the "world"
of representations and understandings that make up the Matrix of our mind.

The Meta-States Model began within a modeling project as Dr. L. Michael Hall
was mapping out the structure of resilience. Now in the new edition of
Meta-States he tells the story of that project and the discoveries he made
about resilience and about the meta-states that make up resilience.

Dr. Hall has completely rewritten the text of this new edition of
Meta-States (2008) so that it reads like an entirely new book. So even if
you have a coyp of the original book, this new edition updates and expands
the model. As an academic presentation, Meta-States explores the NLP
background, the early explorations into self-reflexivity by Korzybski and
Bateson and the epistemology within it.

There are four sections in this new edition of Meta-States (2008):

Part I: Meta-States Discovery (chapters 1-5)

Part II: Modeling Self-Reflexive Consciousness (chapters 6-13)

Part III: The Meta-States Model and theory (chapters 14-20)

Part IV: Specific Meta-States (chapters 21-22)

The Meta-States Model is not merely a single pattern within NLP, but a
meta-model itself, and the most extensive one in NLP. It is a model that
maps out self-reflexivity and which provides a way to model experience. Via
the Meta-States Model, Neuro-Semantics came into being. Meta-States has
remodeled NLP models and patterns:
