Actualizing Excellence

THE MAGIC OF RE-VISITING

L. Michael Hall

I recently wrote an article that I titled, Who Wants to be an Expert? The latest research in the area of expertise has discovered the magic in what's called "deliberate practice." This very special form of practice turns out to be the secret ingredient in those who move from mere competency to true expertise. I learned a lot from reading the research on deliberate practice and have been introducing it intentionally into those areas that I want actual mastery.

What I also learned is that much of the way we have structured the intensive 8-days of Coaching Mastery fits the criteria for "deliberate practice." So what makes up the heart of deliberate practice?

1) A structured set of activities for improving performance.

2) An effortful stretch.

3) Self-monitoring and measuring of progress.

4) A focused concentration on one item at a time.

5) Mindful practice that refuses the slip into unconsciousness.

As you well know, the concept of kaizen as continuous improvement lies at the heart of actualizing your highest and best. It means taking your skills and competency to ever new levels. And that's were re-visiting Meta-Coaching comes in. This is also why Michelle and I, from the very beginning, made it available at 1/4 the price; we really want to encourage Meta-Coaches around the world to keep refining their skills and becoming truly experts in coaching.

Part of this is a strategy for putting Meta-Coaching on the map -as a Meta-Coach you already have the most systematic set of models in the field of coaching. But it's not enough to have knowledge and tools- what's required is the actual competency to "follow a client's energy through their matrix of frames," to facilitate a fierce conversation that gets to the heart of things, to facilitate the dance of generative change, to facilitate the unleashing of new potentials, to set frames that empower and find the leverage point for transformation and much more.

-- Would you like to become an Expert in Coaching?

-- Are you committed to becoming world-class in your skills?

-- Are you willing to invest in kaizen as your style of continuous improvement?

Here's to actualizing your mastery competence as a Meta-Coach!

I sent this out in March but want to send it out again. Revisiting and re-experiencing the Coaching Bootcamp is really a very special way to refine your skills and take them to a whole new level. Those who have re-visited can testify that every time it is like a whole new training and experience. And you can revisit for 25% of the cost!
