[Neurons] A Stutterer's Testimony

Some weeks ago, Roddy Grubbs responded to a Dev's post. In Roddy's extensive
response, I was most impressed with the depth of his response to Dev that I
asked Roddy to take that post and to write an article for publication on our
web site at www.neurosemantics.com.

In essence, Roddy has brilliantly summarized the Neuro-Semantic Model as a
tool for personal change. Though written for the PWS (Person Who Stutters),
Roddy's words speak volumes to how we structure our subjective experiences
be it expressed as a stutter or as something else; i.e., a panic attack, an
anxiety disorder, an addictive behavior, OCD behavior, etc. Thus, I am also
sending the link to his article to the Christian e-mail list as well as the
larger Neuro-Semantics email list. Fear and anxiety are obviously not
experienced by just PWS.

Roddy concludes his article:

"Neuro-Semantics is a two-sided coin: not only does one deal with changing
"the negative", but one builds off of and creates an equally wide array of
"the positive". And you use the same tools for both. That is really great
stuff to me! Imagine, not only defuse the negative past, but infuse one's
future with powerful new visions of achievement that, each time we run them
through our minds, cue and signal us for our greatest performance and
goals!"

The article came to 12 pages single space in Word 2007. Roddy covers a lot
of "mental territory" with it. So, prepare yourself for spending some time
on reading and re-reading the article. I encourage you to print it off. In
the article, Roddy explains what "structure" means and, as such, to really
"understand" the article, you will need to give yourself permission to "try
on" his suggestion as you experiment with your own subjective experience of
thinking strategies that no longer serve you.

At the end of the article, Roddy has provided us with his email address so
you can communicate personally with him if you would like to. Obviously
Roddy knows his "stuff" (a technical term).

You will find the article at:

http://www.masteringstuttering.com/Techniques/gaining-fluency.htm

In 2005 Roddy wrote another article entitled "From Alabama to New Hampshire
- A Story of My Journey." This article is on the Neuro-Semantics web site:

http://www.neurosemantics.com/Stuttering/Testimony_Roddy_Grubbs.htm

I suggest you read both for comparison purposes.

Note: I have created an index page for Roddy's articles at:

http://www.masteringstuttering.com/Index/Grubbs.htm

You will find both articles linked from that page.

For those relatively new to our list, go to the home page at
http://www.masteringstuttering.com/. And arrow down until you see on the
left side menu "Articles By". Below that you will find 6 different people
listed who have contributed to our web site. The more articles and
techniques that we can have on the site by different authors, the better the
site. So, if you would like to contribute, email your materials to me for
consideration to posting (bobbybodenhamer at yahoo.com). Please allow me some
time in reading your materials and communicating with you and later
publishing to the site if approved.

We now have 854 members in our email list. This is great.

Thanks Roddy for your outstanding contribution to our site.

Bob
