The first beta of Geeklog 1.5.0 is now available for download from
geeklog.net.

As usual, the language files in this release have been updated so that
all the new text strings have been added (in English) to all the
existing language files. For the first time, this is also true for the
plugins that we're shipping with Geeklog. I hope this makes your life a
little bit easier.

There's also yet another new language file in Geeklog 1.5.0 now: The
install script can now also be localized. The language files for the
install script are located in

  /path/to/geeklog/public_html/admin/install/language

Here's a few hints to important changes in the language files:

- Geeklog 1.5.0 replaces the config.php files with a configuration GUI.
So all references to config.php should be removed from the language
file. Instead, please refer to "the Configuration admin panel" or simply
"the Configuration" as you see fit.

This affects $LANG24[77], $LANG28[55], $LANG_DB_BACKUP['not_found'].

- There are quite a few new strings for the configuration. This
shouldn't come as surprise since there were over 180 options in
config.php. And now they're all in the language file and wait to be
translated. Sorry about that ...

- If you're providing an update to a language, you only need to
translate either the UTF-8 or the non-UTF-8 version - I can convert the
result accordingly.


As usual, please send any updated translations to myself, to this list,
or upload them on geeklog.net. And please don't forget to pack them in
a .zip or .tar.gz archive to protect special characters from getting
mangled. Thank you!

The conversion of <br> tags embedded in some text strings to their XHTML
compliant counterpart apparently went wrong in some language files[1].
It seems to affect all of the Calendar language files plus a few of the
Japanese language files. You'll notice a strange <brXHTML> tag in those.

If you encounter one of those, either translate it to the intended construct:

  ...<br' . XHTML . '>...

or just leave them as they are and I'll take care of them when I check
the translations in. Thanks.

As you've probably seen, Geeklog 1.5.0 beta 2 was released last Tuesday.
That version fixed the <brXHTML> tags but otherwise left the language
files unchanged.

I have since found a small wording issue with two new text strings for
the account reminder emails that Geeklog 1.5 can now send out. In case
you were wondering, these two strings each had a word missing:

$LANG28 = array(
...
82 => "Your account on {$_CONF['site_name']} has not been accesssed
since %s and will be disabled if not accessed in the *next* 30 days.",
    83 => "Your account on {$_CONF['site_name']} has not been used since
it was created and will *be* deleted soon if not accessed.",
...

The highlighted words ("next" and "be") were missing. I guess it was
obvious anyway what the meaning was supposed to be.


As you know, we're on a tight schedule with Geeklog 1.5.0. If all goes
well, the first release candidate may be available as early as tomorrow
(Saturday).

I know there wasn't exactly a lot of time for updating the translations
this time around. If you have anything, even partial work, that you'd
like to see included in the final 1.5.0 release, you should try and send
it in this coming weekend. Don't bother with the <brXHTML> tags or
versions using other character sets - I can take care of those.

Of course, you can always upload your translation to geeklog.net later.

Attached is an archive of two Chinese Translation files (Traditional and
Simplified) for GL 1.5 core language.

I haven't yet done the installation language file yet.  Hopefully, I will
get it done in time.

Thanks for catching the errors.  I should have tested before sending them
out.  I've also found more errors and corrected them, and packaged the files
with the installation translations.  I uploaded the package to the
Geeklog.net file manager so that the beta tester can download and test them
out if they want to.

with 1.5.0 now, so 1.5.0rc1 should be available for download some time
tomorrow - with your translations.

I also had to make a last-minute change to the install script so that it

It's OK with me.

I've also invited Sun Ge (username sunge), who submitted a better (he calls
it "authentic") Chinese translation, to join us  on this list.  I am not
quite a native Chinese speaker because I grew up overseas since I was three.
I am glad a native translator, who also seems younger, offer to translate.

is a bit too big (see attachment). Not sure what to do about it, though.
Make the buttons wider or the font smaller? Or is there a way to phrase
it differently?

Hmm...  It might depends on user's environment since I didn't see such
wrapped "New Install" button.

Anyway, yes there are three way to solve the problem as you mentioned:

1. Make the font smaller.
2. Make the button wider.
3. Change the phrase; "New Install" to "Install".

I prefer 1 > 3 > 2.  If you want to use 3, attached patch would change
the phrase.

|Hmm...  It might depends on user's environment since I didn't see such
|wrapped "New Install" button.

|Anyway, yes there are three way to solve the problem as you mentioned:
|
|1. Make the font smaller.
|2. Make the button wider.
|3. Change the phrase; "New Install" to "Install".
|
|I prefer 1 > 3 > 2.  If you want to use 3, attached patch would change
|the phrase.
