George Floyd was murdered one year ago tomorrow, May 25.  As his daughter Gianna said, her Daddy changed the world--but not always for the better. There is still a lot of racism and hatred out there. To commemorate the life of George Floyd, and to continue the spirit of forceful but peaceful protest that brought millions of people together in sorrow and purpose, we will be taking to the streets once again on Tuesday. There will be several demonstrations in our neighborhood. One of them will be at 111th and Broadway, from 7:30 to 7:45 PM. Please join us, on 111th or another location, and in your hearts.
I don't want to detract from the solemnity of this occasion, but I want to share some very good news about Early Voting in our neighborhood, which runs from June 12 through June 20. You may recall the four hour waits at West Side High last October. Great for democracy, but bad for the feet. This year, the Board of Elections has added several new sites. Most of Morningside Heights from 106th to 120th will vote at the old Citibank storefront, located at 2872 Broadway, between 111th and 112th Streets. We will get you more details shortly, but for now, everyone whose regular Election Day polling place is PS 165, 410 Riverside, or Riverside Church will have the opportunity to Early Vote at the old Citibank site. Everyone else who voted at The Forum--only the voters from Riverside Church have had their Early Voting Site moved--will still Early Vote at the Forum. We will provide the complicated details of the Manhattan Valley Early Voting poll sites--almost equally divided between West Side High, Wadleigh School and the Citibank site--in an upcoming e-mail.
Yours in peace and contemplation,
Curtis Arluck
