Hi everybody,

Today and Sunday are going to be very hot! I wanted to send along some
resources to help you beat the heat.

First, if you are having trouble staying cool in your home, there are many
public spaces with air conditioning (AC) that you can visit throughout the
day. To find a *cooling center* near you, call 311 or visit the NYC Cooling
Center Finder at NYC.gov/beattheheat.

Second, the transportation service Lyft has recently announced that they
will be offering 2 free rides (up to $15 each) to New Yorkers heading to
the *Morningside Heights, Harlem, and Inwood Libraries* to stay cool by
using the code NYCCOOL19, active from now through Sunday. Especially if
mobility is difficult for you, please take advantage of this offer for
quick access to a cooling center near you!

Note that Morningside Heights Library will be open Sunday 1-5pm to
accommodate people who need to cool off.

Third, follow these steps to make sure that you and your loved ones can
stay healthy in the heat:

   1. Stay out of the sun and avoid extreme temperature changes.
   2. Drink water every 15 minutes even if you are not thirsty. (Your
employer is required to provide water, rest, and shade when work is being
done during extreme heat!) Those on fluid-restricted diets or taking
diuretics should first speak with their doctor, pharmacist, or other health
care provider. Avoid beverages containing alcohol or caffeine in order to
   stay hydrated.
   3. Cool down with a cold bath or shower if you are feeling over-heated.
   4. Participate in activities that will keep you cool, such as going to
the movies, shopping at a mall, or swimming at a pool or beach. The best
thing anyone can do to stay safe in and around the water is to learn to
swim. The NYC Parks Department has free swimming lessons for kids and
   adults.
   5. Never leave your children or pets in the vehicle, even for a few
minutes. This can be very dangerous to them.

Finally, if you or someone you know has:

   - Hot dry skin.
   - Trouble breathing.
   - Rapid heartbeat.
   - Confusion, disorientation, or dizziness.
   - Nausea and vomiting.

Call 911, as this may be a sign of heat illness, which can be serious.

I hope you all stay safe and healthy this weekend. Be sure to check out our
newsletter

Hola a todxs,
