Day 59 in Puerto Rico

Dear Friends,

It's been 59 days since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, destroying the
island and leaving the majority of Puerto Ricans without access to basic
needs such as food and water.

Recently, Puerto Rico took another hit- a power failure from a line
installed by Whitefish Energy dropped those with power on the island to
18%. Puerto Rico is currently experiencing the worst blackout in US
history, with no end in sight.

Every year I do a fundraiser for my birthday. However, it's more important
to me this year to help our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico as well as the
Puerto Rican community in NYC. For this reason, I am asking that instead of
donating to my campaign, you give to the Hispanic Federation

With the federal government having failed in such a big way, it's important
that local and state leadership step up to the plate to fill in the gaps.

I was lucky enough to earn another term representing my district last year,
and one of my best local partners, Helen Rosenthal, earned another term
this year. That is why we've partnered together to make sure that we have a
united voice in helping the more than 3 million Puerto Ricans who are in
need.
