Last week, Senators representing New York City had a choice: stand up for
kids with asthma, or take a page out of Scott Pruitt’s playbook

and side with polluters over our health.

We are sorry to share that *nine senators,* representing both political
parties and all five boroughs, made the wrong choice, including:

   - Bronx: Jeff Klein
   - Manhattan: Marisol Alcantara
   - Queens: Jose Peralta, Tony Avella
   - Brooklyn: Jesse Hamilton, Simcha Felder, Marty Golden
   - Staten Island: Andy Lanza, Diane Savino

The state’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) was to be fully
implemented in 2010; it came about due to extraordinarily high asthma rates
in many NYC communities – sadly, many of the same communities represented
by these senators (*see our recent report here!*

With all of the dangers we see coming from the Trump Administration in
D.C., we cannot let polluters continue to place our kids in harm's way here
in New York City.

*Take one action today: if you are represented by any of these senators,
call them. *Tell them you support the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of
2006, are disappointed with their vote to delay and endanger our children,
and want to see the law fully enacted in this year’s budget.

There is more than $100 million coming to the state from the
Volkswagen cheating settlement that must be used to reduce dirty diesels.
DERA should be at the top of this to-do list!

*Not represented by one of them? Then call Senator Jeff Klein, the leader
of the Independent Democratic Conference, whose members surprisingly are
advocating another DERA delay: 718-822-2049 <(718)%20822-2049>.*
