Dear Neighbor,

As we are all too aware, our community, especially West End Avenue, has been the
 site of many traffic-related tragedies in recent months. I hope you will join me
this Thursday, July 31, for a presentation by the NYC Department of Transportation
on the proposed West End Avenue redesign from 107th Street to 72nd Street. The meeting
is sponsored by Council Member Helen Rosenthal and Community Board 7 and will take
place at 6:30 pm at P.S. M811 - The Mickey Mantle School (466 West End Avenue - 
between 82nd & 83rd Streets). See the flyer for this event below.

In addition, at the state level I am introducing legislation to suspend the licenses
of drivers who cause fatal pedestrian accidents. This past session I sponsored and
passed a bill to reduce the default speed limit in NYC to 25 mph. You can read more

Safety and health go hand in hand. Please save the date for the first of my two 
annual Community Health Fairs: Saturday, August 16, from 12-3pm. It will be held
 in conjunction with Grant Houses Family Day on LaSalle Street between Broadway 
and Amsterdam Avenue. Free blood pressure and foot screenings, HIV and Hepatitis
 C tests, e-waste and textile recycling, and valuable information on a variety of
health topics will be available! More details to follow.
