>Governor Cuomo yesterday announced an agreement with the Legislature on a 2013-2014 budget that will create jobs and cut taxes for middle class families and small businesses. It is on track to become New York's third on-time budget in a row, a feat that hasn’t been achieved in Albany in almost 30 years.

>In just the past two years, we have seen more than 300,000 new private sector jobs created, and New York has had 17 consecutive months of job growth. Our state has also welcomed 20,000 new small businesses in the past year alone.

>

>Creating more jobs in communities across the state remains the Governor’s top priority. This budget continues to grow the economy through investments in our Regional Economic Development Councils, new innovation hot spots to nurture more new businesses, and job programs that match and train our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.

>The budget also continues the Governor’s commitment to put students first by investing in his key educational reform programs, including: full day pre-k for our highest need students; expanded learning time by supporting extended school day or school year programs; rewards for high-performing teachers; and increased certification standards to ensure the best and brightest are teaching our students.

>Today’s agreement also continues the Governor's commitment to restore New York as the progressive capital of the nation by raising the minimum wage for hardworking New Yorkers to $9 an hour over the next three years.
