(New
York) – The United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of
America (UAW) Region 9A, which represents thousands of technical, academic, and
professional workers at museums, law firms, universities, libraries, and
offices across New York City, has endorsed Council Member Gale Brewer in the
race for Manhattan Borough President.

“I
am honored to have the support of the thousands of men and women of UAW
Region 9A, who work to keep our vibrant city moving,” said Brewer. “I
look forward to serving them and working families across Manhattan as Borough
President.”

UAW
Region 9A cited Brewer’s 40 years of service to New York City and her long
record of progressive action for working families as the reason for their
endorsement.

“Council
Member Brewer has been a steadfast ally of working New Yorkers throughout her
career, passing legislation to protect domestic workers, provide better housing
for tenants, and guaranteeing that employees have paid sick leave,” said UAW
Region 9A Director Julie Kushner. “We are confident that she will continue to
be a trusted advocate for working families as Manhattan Borough President.”

Gale
Brewer has served the people of New York for over 40 years. Since 2002, she has
represented the Upper West Side and northern Clinton on the New York City
Council, where she successfully passed the nation’s first law protecting
domestic workers, a landmark Open Data law, and many other important bills.
With a Master’s Degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Gale
teaches Urban Policy at colleges across New York City, including Barnard,
Baruch, and Hunter. Gale and her husband, Cal Snyder, live on the Upper West
Side where they have helped raised several foster children, many of whom they
adopted and are now grown.
