Good afternoon!

Hope you're all enjoying the warm weather! I don't want to hold you up, so I'll 
get right to the point.

Our children and working parents are under attack in the Mayor's proposed budget.
 Without restoration of funds, 47,000 children will lose their after school and 
child care programs.  El Barrio/East Harlem and the South Bronx are some of the 
hardest hit communities in the city, despite having among the highest child poverty
rates.  The administration alleges that the City does not have funding to cover 
these services, even as we learned last week that New York City's top 1 percent

 The priorities of this city under Mayor Bloomberg are completely upside down and
I'm sick of it.

Tomorrow evening, my office, the El Barrio/East Harlem Youth Violence Task Force
 and the Campaign for Children are holding a town hall to give parents, youth and
the entire community across my district an opportunity to learn about the devastating
impact of these cuts and to connect with organizing efforts. We'll be gathering 
at Children's Aid Society on 101st Street and Lexington Ave at 5:00. Can we count

stake. That's thousands of youth who will be without a place to go after dismissal
and thousands of parents who will have to choose between quitting their jobs or 
leaving their young children with unreliable caretakers.
