In June 2011, all NY State rent protections will expire - putting at risk many of the over 1 million NYC renter households depending on rent regulations to keep their homes affordable (fully one out of three households are paying 50% or more of their income in rent.)The strong support of the NY State Assembly is crucial if the rent laws are to be RENEWED and STRENGTHENED

The Interfaith Assembly Joins our allies in the Real Rent Reform Campaign in calling for:

- Renewal and Strengthening of our Current Rent Protections

 - Full Repeal of Vacancy Decontrol, (which has resulted in the loss of over 150,000 rent regulated apartments over the past 10 years) and

- A Full Extension of Rent Protections to all Mitchell-Lama & Section 8 buildings that leave government  programs.

Join the Interfaith Assembly and tenant and housing advocates from across Manhattan for this critical borough-wide meeting to show our elected officials how important this issue is to our city. Come hear the latest updates from Albany to strategize with our allies on how to protect our homes!

The Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing is a coalition of religious organizations and individuals working with and on behalf of homeless, poorly housed, and at-risk individuals. A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, The Assembly was founded in 1986 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City.
The Assembly addresses homelessness in two ways: helping those who are homeless recover from the trauma associated with their homelessness and begin to rebuild their lives - through our Life-Skills Empowerment programs; and by working with our broad base of coalition partners in supporting the establishment of public policies that will provide needed services to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and supporting policies that will produce and preserve housing affordable to homeless and lowest income New Yorkers.
