I'm providing information about campaign activities supporting Bill Perkins and Gustavo Rivera. The Bway Dems have endorsed State Senator Bill Perkins for reelection but we haven't endorsed in the other race only because it's outside our club area. Paula

TENANT ALERT
One Week to go to the Democratic Primary

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2010

Help Two Strong Pro-Tenant Candidates for State Senate:

GUSTAVO RIVERA
A true progressive challenger to the landlord stooge incumbent, Pedro Espada, in the northwest Bronx (33rd State Senate District)

and

BILL PERKINS
A staunch pro-tenant incumbent on the West Side of Manhattan and Central Harlem being challenged by a candidate who is bankrolled by landlords (30th State Senate District).

The polls will be open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. We need help all day long.

How You Can Help:
These two races will be won by the side that does the best job of GETTING OUT THE VOTE (GOTV).  We need volunteers to help Get Out The Vote. Take the day off, as a personal day or vacation day, so you can work on one of these races. If you cannot volunteer for the entire day, do a shift. You can go to the northwest Bronx to help Gustavo Rivera, or you can go to the West Side of Manhattan or Central Harlem to help Bill Perkins. Or you can join the Tenants PAC GOTV phone bank in lower Manhattan.

(1) POLL WATCHING, palm carding, visibility efforts in the district.

To volunteer for the Perkins campaign, call Julian Vinocur at 203-313-2479, or email him at julianvinocur at gmail.com. You can also sign up online at http://www/billperkins.org/events/GOTV. BILL PERKINS campaign headquarters is at 281 West 114th Street (storefront) at Frederick Douglass Boulevard. (Subway to 281 West 114th Street: B or C train to 116th Street.)

To volunteer for Gustavo Rivera, call Brad Usher at (347) 693-4640 or email him at bradusher at gmail.com. GUSTAVO RIVERA campaign headquarters is at 3224 Grand Concourse, Apartment G-1. This is at Mosholu Parkway South, on the south side of the
parkway. Beginning this weekend the campaign will have two additional staging
locations – check in with Brad Usher. (Subway to 3224 Grand Concourse: No. 4 train to Mosholu Parkway, or B or D train to Bedford Park Boulevard)

Please note: if you have access to an automobile, the campaigns can definitely make use of your car, and you as a driver. Wear your red Real Rent Reform Campaign T-shirt.

(2)  PHONE BANKING
Join the Tenants PAC GOTV phone bank at United Federation of Teachers, 52 Broadway, fifth floor (a couple of blocks south of Wall Street; see directions below) . We will be phoning voters for Bill Perkins and Gustavo Rivera. The phone bank will operate from 11:00 am until 8:30 pm. You can just show up during these hours, but it will help us to know you are coming. To sign up, or for information: Michael McKee (917) 669-2977 or mmckee at tenantspac.org. (See below for directions to 52 Broadway.). 4 or No. 5 train to Wall Street; No. 1 train to Rector Street; R train to Rector Street; J or Z train to Broad Street; No. 2 or No. 3 train to Wall Street or Fulton Street.

(3) MAKE A DONATION
Both campaigns are being outspent by candidates who have carloads of landlord money. Both Gustavo Rivera and Bill Perkins need funds. Contributions now will enable the campaigns to get their message out to voters in the last week. (Do this now – next Tuesday will really be too late.)
