I'm providing information about a state sentate phone bank supporting Bill Perkins and Gustavo Rivera. The Bway Dems have endorsed State Senator Bill Perkins for reelection but we haven't endorsed in the other race because it's outside our club area. Paula

Help re-elect State Senator Bill Perkins! Help Gustavo Rivera defeat Pedro Espada for re-election to the State Senate!

Join the Tenants PAC phone bank.

There are two Democratic primary races on Tuesday, September 14 where
tenants have a lot at stake:

State Senator Bill Perkins (30th State Senate District, Harlem & Upper West Side) is being challenged by Basil Smikle, a Bloombucks acolyte whose campaign is funded by the New York City real estate lobby and the hedge fund millionaires who are behind the charter school industry. Bill’s defeat in the primary would be a terrible loss for tenants.

Gustavo Rivera is trying to defeat the scandal-scarred incumbent, Pedro Espada, Jr. in the 33rd State Senate District (Northwest Bronx). The much-investigated Espada is the landlords’ point person in Albany. He has successfully bottled up all our bills in the Senate Housing Committee, which he chairs. Gustavo Rivera is a true progressive who wants to help tenants and the other residents of the district, whereas all Espada cares about is lining his pockets.

Tenants PAC is running a nightly phone bank in support of these two pro-tenant candidates. We will be calling tenant voters in these two districts to urge them to vote for Bill Perkins and Gustavo Rivera. 

The phone bank starts this Thursday, August 19. We will phone each night, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. If you can make phone calls for all or part of that time, please sign up. You can just show up – we have lots of phone lines – but it will help us to know in advance that you are coming. See below for how to sign up.

(NOTE: We will suspend the phone bank next Tuesday evening, August 24, the night of the city-wide strategy meeting.)

The phone bank is located at the United Federation of Teachers, 52 Broadway in lower Manhattan, on the fifth floor. 52 Broadway is a little bit below Wall Street. The nearest subway stop is Wall Street on the 4 or 5 lines. Also nearby is the Number 1 stop at Rector Street, the R or W stop at Rector Street, the J or Z stop at Wall Street, the M stop at Broad Street, or the 2 or 3 stop at Wall Street.
